Aboutkaren

As far back as I can remember I have had a strong desire to help living things. I have always had strong empathetic feelings toward other beings that were experiencing suffering. As a young teenager, I began self study in the fields of astrology, natural medicine, and nutrition. In 1995 I enrolled in a massage therapy program, beginning my journey into professional natural medicine. My life’s work has always been in the medical field; as a veterinary technician, physical therapy assistant, nursing, massage therapy, and yoga study and instruction.

When I discovered the art and science of Chinese Medicine, suddenly all the areas I had previously studied crystallized into a point of focus. With an undergraduate degree in Biology, I enrolled at Yo San University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. I chose Yo San for two reasons; it is a school with a legacy of 38 generations of Chinese medical doctors in the Ni family lineage, and it is a very academically challenging school. During my 4-year Masters degree training, I studied not only Chinese medicine, but also western medicine in classes such as anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, physics, pharmacology, and western clinical diagnosis. I completed a one year clinical residency in the community clinic at Yo San as well as one semester at Being Alive, a treatment facility for those diagnosed with HIV/ AIDS.

As a practitioner of Chinese Medicine, I incorporate all the practice has to offer for my patients, including acupuncture, herbal medicine, tui-na massage, Swedish massage, acupressure, nutritional counseling, lifestyle counseling, yoga, tai chi, qi gong and meditation.

I offer a wide ranging skill set to help my patients discover their “right life”- a life functioning harmoniously, with integrity and good health.

I fully believe in the innate power of the body to heal. However, this requires not only the right tools, but also the right support to assist and facilitate the healing process. We were all gifted with everything we need around us to lead our right life, but at times we forget what we need, and how to use it. I have spent many years investigating this ancient and universal knowledge, and am here to support and empower others along their journey to health and harmony.

Please refer to the Chinese Medicine tab to learn more about what Chinese Medicine consists of and how it can help you.

Outside of practicing natural medicine, I love anything to do with nature and animals! I take great enjoyment in horseback riding, hiking, playing with and learning about animals, experiencing and practicing yoga, qi gong & tai chi, meditation, archery, reading and eating.
